Online rent and the tenant page

Tenants pay by bank transfer or card, with autopay, straight to your bank; their page also has receipts, the lease and repair requests.

Long-term leases → Rent → Online rent payments

Set up online payments opens your own Stripe account, which verifies who you are and connects your bank; it takes a few minutes. Tenants pay into that account and Stripe pays it out to your bank; Rentalhand never holds the money. The payments are yours, so refunds and disputes (a chargeback or a returned bank payment) are handled by you in your Stripe dashboard, as with any payment you take.

Choose who pays the online payment fee: Stripe’s processing plus a $2 Rentalhand fee per payment. Stripe takes its processing in your account and Rentalhand takes the $2. When the tenant pays, the fee is added at checkout and you receive the full rent; when you cover it, the tenant pays the rent only and the fee is booked in Financials. The panel shows both on your typical rent.

The tenant page shows what is owing with Pay by bank transfer and Pay by card, autopay (charged on each due date, with the receipt by email), receipts that print or save as PDF, the lease and its signed documents, and a repair request form with up to four photos.

A repair request opens a maintenance request with the photos and tells you at once (by text when marked urgent). They are listed under Tenant requests on the Maintenance page.

  1. On the Rent page, press Set up online payments and finish the Stripe steps.
  2. Pick who pays the online payment fee.
  3. On the Tenants page, press Send link (or Copy link) for each tenant.
  • Rent paid by cash, check or another app is still recorded with Record payment.
  • A payment that fails or is returned is reported to you and the tenant, and the invoice is open again.
  • Autopay saved before rent moved to your own Stripe account (November 2026) cannot be charged there: on its next due date it is turned off and you and the tenant are told to set it up again from the tenant page.
